Birmingham, AL (Thursday, October 23, 2008) -- Bright House Networks and FOX Sports have agreed to launch FOX Sports en Español in the Florida Panhandle to provide access to the World Series for those customers affected by LIN TV’s refusal to allow Bright House Networks carriage rights of WALA-TV, Channel 9. On October 2, 2008, the Retransmission Agreement between Bright House Networks and LIN TV, parent company of WALA-TV, expired and LIN TV denied carriage rights to continue.
"We were still hopeful that an amicable, contractual agreement can be reached. Unfortunately for our customers, throughout the Florida Panhandle, that has not happened yet. We continue to be optimistic about a pending resolution“, “Karen Broach, President of Bright House Networks Birmingham Division, said. “We all know how popular the World Series is this time of year. It is especially rewarding for the Florida residents to see and cheer for their home state, Tampa Bay Rays. Our ability to provide this coverage to our customers is another example of our commitment to serve our customers”
Bright House Networks will provide the feed of FOX Sports en Español on Channel 66 in the Cantonment service areas. The game will be broadcasted in Spanish, which may present a challenge for some viewers. The channel will be available for tonight’s game two between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Tampa Bay Rays, and for all subsequent World Series games. Local broadcast time is 7:00 p.m. Central on game nights.
